Lukas Thaler | Dolce

++Startgalerie's 275th exhibition++

The exhibition title DOLCE alludes to the broad italophilic cosmos of Lukas Thaler. The spectrum ranges from literary and general linguistic references to memories of local objects and habits,

as experienced on holiday trips to Italy, up to an interest in Italian furniture design. Especially the fascination of "Radical Design", a movement of the late 1960s and 1970s oriented towards new materials and forms of Pop Art, flows into the concept of his sculptures. The artist concentrates on the relationship between producer, object and viewer. He recognizes the production and consideration of art as related processes, whereby he is particularly interested in the communicative moment. In reference to Giorgio de Chirico's pictorial world, Thaler arranges things so that they enter into exchange with one another.

Lukas Thaler (*1989 in Tirol, A) works in series that open up a variety of communication possibilities in the variation of the object. Parallel to the things placed on the floor, in the exhibition we find a series of objects reminiscent of Pannello Espositore - a shelf from the Italian designer group UFO - on the wall. These variable set pieces extend the overall structure of the project by a new narrative strand. Intended ambivalence and multi-layeredness prove to be the supporting elements of an unstable construction.
